Alachua County residents gathered at Celebration Pointe on Saturday, November 5, 2016 to celebrate an infrastructural improvement to Gainesville and to raise funds for a great cause.
The Celebration Pointe Bridge Walk & Fall Festival included food trucks, a ribbon cutting, and a commemorative walk over the new bridge to raise money for the Child Advocacy Center. The Child Advocacy Center provides services to abused, neglected, and trafficked children.
The purpose of the bridge is to reduce the traffic impact of the new community of Celebration Pointe. The bridge connects Southwest 45th Street, the main road into Celebration Pointe off Archer Road, with Plaza Boulevard through Butler North to the east of the interstate. Celebration Pointe is a transit-oriented community, and the bridge represents their commitment to easing transportation.
Celebration Pointe developer and UF graduate Svein Dyrkolbotn said the event and the construction of the bridge are representative of Celebration Pointe’s dedication to Gainesville.
“It’s always been our mission to use our project for opportunities to benefit the community,” Celebration Pointe developer Svein Dyrkolbotn said.
According to an article published in The Gainesville Sun, Celebration Pointe is now planned for 1 million square feet of retail and office space, and nearly 1,000 apartments over 125 acres, an overpass over I-75 and 100 acres in conservation. Tenants announced for phase one to open include an 80,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shops, a 10-screen Regal Cinemas, a 120-room Hotel Indigo and a 60,000-square-foot office building for Gainesville software and consulting firm Info Tech.
As a testament to this statement, the fundraiser raised a total of $13,000 for the Child Advocacy Center.
