The theater will offer $3 movies leading up to the grand opening.
Movie lovers, rejoice. Popcorn eaters, unite. New parents, call the babysitter.
Regal Entertainment Group announced Thursday that Regal Celebration Pointe 10 and RPX theater, 4901 SW 31st Place, will have its official grand opening April 12.
On its opening day, the high-end movie theater will feature movies “Overboard” and “Truth or Dare.”
The Regal Entertainment Group 51,588-square-foot theater will feature 10 screens with RPX technology (something akin to an IMAX screen) and will include luxury-theater offerings like king-size recliners with padded footrests and a lobby complete with a full bar and lounge.
The theater will sell alcoholic drinks and high-end food options — more than just your regular popcorn and candy, said Sean McIntosh, senior vice president of asset management for Celebration Pointe, earlier this month. Leading up to the opening will be three days of charitable events leading up to its opening, including $3 movies, popcorn and soft drinks, Sunday, April 8 through April 10.
Regal Celebration Pointe will also offer Regal Crown Club members a free small popcorn and soft drink with each paid admission.
Proceeds from the events will benefit the March of Dimes, Ronald McDonald House, and Child Advocacy Center.
A Regal Cinemas spokeswoman said she didn’t have information about regular ticket prices.
The Regal theater will serve as a primary entertainment option in the massive, mixed-use retail development.
Celebration Pointe, expected to hold more than 20 retailers and restaurants, is meant to feel like home, according to its developers and project managers.
The pedestrian-only City Walk and Promenade, once its first phase of construction is complete, will be about 200 feet long by 50 feet wide, lined with retailers and restaurants.
It will have gas fire pits, grassy areas, a bocce ball court and outlets for patrons to charge their phones, to let people stay awhile.
It also has an open container policy that says patrons can walk from store to store and around the Promenade with drinks purchased from any of its eateries because of an open contain container provision they were granted by Alachua County commissioners.
Expected to open next on April 19 is a Tommy Hilfiger Store. Following its opening will be a Nike outlet store, said Phillip Bergman, spokesman for Celebration Pointe.
Restaurants, like MidiCi, a neapolitan pizza company, are expected to follow. MidiCi’s is expected to open in summer 2018, according to its Facebook page.
The development’s 140-room Hotel Indigo is expected to open before October.
Other announced Celebration Pointe retailers and restaurants, according to the development’s website, include spas like The Nail Spa and Azulene Day Spa; retailer Uniform Destination, which sells scrubs and other medical uniforms, and eateries like Rascal Flatts Bar and Grill, Reggae Shack Cafe, Liquid Ginger, Miller’s Ale House and Kilwins Quality Confections.
None of these retailers or restaurants have confirmed open dates.
In November 2016, Bass Pro Shops was the first opening in the 160-acre Celebration Pointe development, followed by office space for Gainesville software company Info Tech.
Celebration Pointe is planned to have more than 1 million square feet of mixed-use development, including retail, restaurant, entertainment, office, hotel, townhome and apartment space.
It is accessible from Southwest 45th Street off of Archer Road and the new overpass over Interstate 75 connecting to Butler North.
