The Alachua County Public Works will start construction this month on a 2.4-mile Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail along Archer Road starting at SW 75th Terrace and ending just short of I-75.
The new portion will connect with the Archer Braid Trail that runs just over six miles to a trailhead beneath Archer’s water tower. The project will cost $1.18 million for the 10-foot wide trail with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) footing the bill as part of its SUN Trail initiative.
“The County is very grateful for this funding from FDOT’s SUN Trail program,” Ramon Gavarrete, public works director, said in a press release. “This facility will be a great addition to this trail and provide enhanced recreation and transportation opportunities to our residents.”
According to an Alachua County press release, the project will finish in December.
